McManus arrested on felony tax charges
RALEIGH — According to a news release from the North Carolina Department of Revenue, state Rep. Deb McManus, D-Lee, Chatham, 56, has been arrested on felony tax charges.
The release states that McManus, 56, of Pine Forest Drive, Siler City, was charged with three counts of embezzlement of state property, and warrants allege that McManus, "as bookkeeper and responsible person of Carolina Family Practice, P.A., aided and abetted the corporation to embezzle, misapply and convert to its own use $47,369 in North Carolina Individual Income Tax withheld during the period Jan. 2011 through July 2013."
McManus reportedly was placed under a $150,000 bond with an appearance set Thursday in Wake County District Court in Raleigh. The Department of Revenue confirmed that McManus turned herself in Wednesday morning and has since been released on $150,000 bond
