n The breast cancer support group will meet at 7 p.m. in the Women's Center at Central Carolina Hospital. This group was formed to help patients and their family members have a better idea of how to take a more positive approach with their care and where to turn when questions arise. n Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center will host a ribbon-cutting and open house from 3-6 p.m. at 3100 Tramway Road, Sanford.
n The Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League will hold a mineral rights workshop from 4-8:30 p.m. at the Lee County Library main branch, 107 Hawkins Avenue, for people with questions or concerns about split estates whether or not they own their mineral rights. n The Goldston Lions Club, in cooperation with the American Red Cross, is sponsoring a blood drive from 2-7 p.m. at Goldston Baptist Church, 190 N. Church St., Goldston. The public is urged to come out and support this opportunity to give the gift of life. Walk-ins are welcome, but participants can make an appointment by calling (919) 898-4624. Candidates must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent) and weigh 110 pounds. Donors should bring a photo ID or Red Cross donor card.

n A free comprehensive diabetic nutrition management class will be held at 4 p.m. in the community classroom at Central Carolina Community College, 1135 Carthage St., Sanford. This class is open to the public but designed to educate people with diabetes about using food as medicine to control their blood sugars, prevent long-term problems and live a healthier life. n Members of the public can join a park ranger at 8 p.m. at Raven Rock State Park in Lillington for a one-hour program to discover some of the secrets, sounds and myths of the park's night life. Taxidermy mounts will be on display. Participants will meet at the visitor center.

n A diabetes nutrition 101 class will be held at 11 a.m. in the rehab services classroom at Central Carolina Community College, 1135 Carthage Road, room 110, Sanford. This class is open to the public but is ideal for new diabetics or people who need some basic tips to get stated managing their diabetes. It is also great for people with pre-diabetes who wish to change their lifestyle to slow or stop the progression to diabetes. Family and care givers are welcome to attend. n A free gestational diabetes nutrition class will be held at 10 a.m. in the rehab services classroom at Central Carolina Community College, 1135 Carthage Road, room 110, Sanford. This class is for pregnant women who have gestational diabetes, and students will learn which foods contain carbohydrates and how to manage their intake to control their blood sugar during pregnancy. n The Chatham Economic Development Corporation will host a joint meeting at 7 p.m. at the Siler City campus of Central Carolina Community College, at 400 Progress Blvd. with the Board of Commissioners, the town boards of Goldston, Pittsboro, and Siler City, and the Board of Education to give an update on a countywide conceptual land use plan. The EDC developed a hybrid growth scenario that combines farmland preservation and targeted employment growth. In the next few months, Chatham County and the EDC will work closely with the towns on developing a related infrastructure plan and will hold additional meetings for residents and businesses. n Lee County Schools Superintendent Andy Bryan will hold a public meet-and-greet event at 5:30 p.m. at J.R. Ingram Elementary School. Bryan will hold a total of seven informal gatherings at elementary schools around the county, giving him the chance to hear from parents, community members and educators about the direction they would like to see Lee County Schools take in the next few years.
