• A regional workshop to help farmers and landowners chart the future of their farms and land assets will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. and continue through 1 p.m. at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, 2420 Tramway Road, Sanford. Topics may include the tools of farm transfer, basic estate planning documents, federal and state tax updates, creating a team of advisors and other various subjects. Pre-registration is required, and the fee is $10 per person and $5 for each additional family member. • A Parkinson's support group, an educational group for people with Parkinson's and their family members, caregivers, and friends, will meet at 10:30 a.m. at The Enrichment Center of Lee County, 1615 S. Third Street, Sanford. The group seeks understanding about the challenges of living with Parkinson's Disease. Facilitators are Bob Brickhouse, Marge Kanning and Hal Siler. THURSDAY

• The Lee Christian Relay for Life team will hold its Hoops for Hope basketball game. JV games begin with girls at 3:30 p.m. and boys at 5 p.m., followed by varsity girls at 6:30 p.m. and boys at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. All admission and concession proceeds will be donated to American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

• The Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce's AM Buzz January event will be held at 7:30 a.m. at Todd Rivenbark and Puryear, 1622 S. Third St. The event will feature door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, coffee and breakfast.

• A childbirth preparation class will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the community classroom at Central Carolina Hospital, 1135 Carthage St., Sanford. The class is designed to help prepare the expectant mother and her support person for labor and delivery. It includes instruction on the process of childbearing; breathing and relaxation; anesthesia and medication used during labor and delivery; the role of the labor coach; and postpartum and infant care. FRIDAY

• The Lee County Democratic Party will host an inaugural celebration, awards banquet and fund-raising gala, starting with a 6:30 p.m. reception, at Carolina Trace Country Club. The reception will be followed by dinner and program at 7 p.m. For further information, please call (252) 258-7588.

• Visitors can explore downtown Siler City's art and culture tonight and every third Friday from 6-9 p.m. Shops and galleries stay open late while live music plays at the courtyard.

SATURDAY

• A “Hungry Birds” workshop will be held at 11 a.m. at Raven Rock State Park, where participants will learn what they can do to help feed the birds this winter. After a brief PowerPoint introduction, the group will learn how to make homemade suet and different types of bird feeders. Supplies will be furnished, but guests can feel free to bring old milk jugs/cartons, paper towel rolls, mesh fruit bags and oranges. All children must be accompanied by an adult during the program. The group will also be discussing how to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count coming in February. Please be aware that there will be peanut products involved with some activities.

• Temple Theatre invites guests to its annual Winter Ball fund-raiser from 5-9 p.m. at the ArtStudio on the corner of Steele and Carthage streets. The event will feature food, music, a raffle and more. Heavy hors d’ oeuvres will be served, and music will be presented by DJ Tommy D. The cost is $35 per person, or $200 for a silver table of six. • Try Jesus Ministries will present “Fired Up for God,” starting at 7 p.m. at 311 Carthage St., Sanford; doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature Pastor Marshall Blackmond, comedian D' Lo and Todd Curry and Focus. All proceeds go to Apostle Joseph and his family, who lost their home to a fire on the Sunday before Christmas.
