• A free small business center seminar titled, “Where Do I Start?! – Introduction to Business Plans,” will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center in Sanford. Creating a business plan seems like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. The first step is understanding the components of a solid plan and knowing where to find applicable information. In this introductory seminar, the presenter will walk participants through a sample plan and give them a step-by-step strategy for gathering the pieces. • A free Small Business Center seminar titled “The ABC's of Starting a Business” will be held from 3-5:30 p.m. at the CCCC Siler City Campus Main Building room 230, Siler City. This course is geared for the beginner/startup, or for those small businesses needing a refresher on the basics of how to start, manage, and grow their small business. • The U.S. Army Soldier Show will return to the Sandhills with a two-night engagement tonight (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday), both nights at 7 p.m., at the Crown Center in Fayetteville. Fort Bragg’s own Spc. Joshua Theno, a visual information equipment repair specialist, will return to his home station to help stage the event as a Soldier Show technician. The shows are free to the public, and seats are first come, first served — with doors opening one hour before show time. 2013 marks the modern Army Soldier Show’s 30th season.

• Today is the first session in Chatham County Council on Aging's eight-week program, “A Matter of Balance,” to help seniors address concerns about falling. The program will be held on Tuesdays from 1-3 pm. The classes are free to the public and will be held at the Western Chatham Senior Center located at 112 Village Lake Road in Siler City. • Lee County Schools Superintendent Andy Bryan will hold a public meet-and-greet event at 5:30 p.m. at B.T. Bullock Elementary School. Bryan will hold a total of seven informal gatherings at elementary schools around the county, giving him the chance to hear from parents, community members and educators about the direction they would like to see Lee County Schools take in the next few years. • The High Hopes Chorus will hold rehearsal from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Jonesboro Presbyterian Church. Music will be distributed, and the fall schedule will be discussed. • Murals in Lee County will meet at 6 p.m. at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. The organization advocates the idea of murals being painted in downtown areas and elsewhere to brighten, beautify and enhance interest in Lee County.

• A free Small Business Seminar titled “Business Services: Understanding the Work Opportunity Tax Credit” will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Harnett Heath Sciences Center located at 51 Red Mulberry Lane, Lillington. • An Alzheimer's disease family program will be held at 2:30 p.m. with speaker Pat Myers, a registered nurse, at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. The topic is “Managing Alzheimer's Disease.” The program is free and open to the public.

• The Brick Capital Quilters’ Guild will meet tonight, with sew time from 3-6 p.m. and a brief business meeting at 6:15 p.m., at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. Members will work on ongoing projects. Anyone interested in quilting on any skill level is welcome to join the group.

• Downtown Sanford Inc. will present the Function at the Junction Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. every Thursday through September at Depot Park in downtown Sanford.
