TODAY

• The drama department will present "The Taming of the Shrew" tonight and every night through Saturday at 7 p.m. at Lee County High School; admission is $5. The play is being put on by two advanced theatre arts classes. One class will perform on Wednesday and Friday, and the other on Thursday and Saturday.

• The Southern Lee High School Theatre Department presents Robert Fulghum's “All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten,” a comedy/ drama /musical, at 7 p.m. in the Cavalier Theatre (room 205 on the right side of the 200 hall, just as you enter the building past the office). All tickets are $6.

• The Temple Theatre will present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at 8 p.m. at 120 Carthage St., Sanford. • Visit the free May Flowers After-Hours event from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Carolina Artists’ Colony, 148 S. Moore St. in downtown Sanford. Browse through made-in-N.C. pottery, jewelry, arts and crafts and mingle with artists; the event will also offer complimentary wine, samples of Old Log Cabin munchies, a raffle for a large Dirtworks Pottery clay planter filled with flowers donated by Big Bloomers and more.

• The Central Carolina Jaycees and Downtown Sanford Inc. are teaming up again to offer free, family-friendly movies in Depot Park every Friday night through May 17. This year's theme is adventure, and tonight's movie is “Shrek.” Movies will start at sunset each Friday night. Additional nights may be scheduled in the case of inclement weather.

• The 2013 Relay For Life of Lee County will begin at 5:30 p.m. (opening ceremonies) at the Lion's Club Fairgrounds. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. SATURDAY

• The 21st annual National Association of Letter Carriers' “Stamp Out Hunger” Postal Food Drive will be held today. This is the country's largest one-day food collection effort. People can participate by hanging a bag of non-perishable food on their mailboxes for their mail carriers to pick up. The most needed items are canned meats, boxed meals, pasta, cooking oil, canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly. To learn more, contact NALC Food Drive Co-Coordinator Coleen Mundy at (919) 770-2956.

• A fun shoot will be held at 10 a.m. (registration and the Wobble Deck open at 9 a.m.) at Deep River Sporting Clays, 284 Cletus Hall Road, Sanford. Entry is $50 for non-members, $35 for members. This is a 100-target shoot. Each class winner will receive a $25 gift certificate.

• The Carolina Pines Ballroom Chapter 6091 USA Dance invites the public to its “Mother’s May Blossom Dance, staring at 7 p.m. at 105 McReynolds St., Carthage (across the street from Fred's on the second floor of the Sinclair Building). The dance begins with snacks, followed by a complimentary dance lesson from 7:30-8 p.m., and open dancing from 8-10 p.m. Singles and couples are welcome. Please bring an appetizer or a food to share. The cost is $7 for members, $10 for guests. All first-time guests get in free.

• Lee County Arts Council presents The Barnyard Bash from noon-4 p.m. in Depot Park, featuring barbecue plates, entertainment, children's activities and the auction of The Sanford Strutters.
