• Those who are unemployed or underemployed can learn the skills needed to land a job in the Central Carolina Community College Continuing Education Department's Course #2156: Career Readiness and Pathways. Participants will explore career opportunities and learn how to find and keep a job, as well as the skills needed to succeed in school or job training, such as how to take notes, reduce test-taking anxiety, and prepare for certification training. The course, taught by Dedrick Petty, meets 9 a.m-1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays today through July 25, for a total of 72 hours. The cost is $175. Registration fee waivers are available for those who qualify. The class will meet in room 118 at CCCC’s Lifelong Learning Center at W.B. Wicker, 900 S. Vance St., Sanford. • A Regional Caregiver Education Conference, a one-day event to address trends in Alzheimer's care for families, professional caregivers and people interested in knowing more about this disease, will be held from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, Sanford. Registration is at 8 a.m., program starts at 9 a.m., and lunch is provided. • Sen. Ron Rabin (R-Harnett), Rep. David Lewis (R-Harnett) and Rep. Mike Stone (R-Lee) announced that they will make five stops on their Harnett County Town Hall Tour. The town of Coats will host them at 7 p.m. at the Coats (NEW) Town Hall, 25 E. Main St., Coats.

• Swim lessons registration will continue today from 3-6 p.m. at O.T. Sloan Pool. The cost is $29 per session for county residents and $39 per session for non-county residents. After May 27, register at Lee County Parks and Recreation, 2303 Tramway Road. Class size is limited, and enrollment will be accepted in person only on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Cheerleading tryouts will be held for the 2013-2014 squads at Southern Lee High School today through May 24 from 3:45-6:30 p.m. in the Aux Gym. Cheerleaders should report to the gym dressed and ready to start no later than 3:45 p.m. each day. Students must be dropped off and picked up by the bus entrance.

• Gary Thomas Farms will offer seasonal produce from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. outside the Carthage Street entrance to Central Carolina Hospital. This is an event sponsored by CCH Auxiliary, with proceeds to benefit auxiliary projects. While picking up their favorite seasonal produce, patrons can visit the CCH Auxiliary This-n-That gift shop for a fresh-baked cookie and other items.
