• The Chatham County Council on Aging and Piedmont Health Services invite residents to a free series of talks scheduled through Dec. 13 on health and aging topics, such as nutrition, home and community resources, and medication. A talk will be held today from 5:30-6:30 p.m. called "Aging Options for Older Adults — Maintaining Quality of Life" at the Pittsboro Senior Center. The talks are open to people of all ages, and Piedmont Health's Moncure Community Health Center will provide speakers and meals for the events. • Meals on Wheels of Sanford will hold its monthly meeting of the board of directors at 9:30 a.m. in the library of the First Presbyterian Church on Hawkins Avenue. All interested parties are invited to attend and learn about this caring ministry.

• The Lee Small Business Center will hold a free seminar titled "How to Raise Your Credit Score to Over 740 Points; Receive That Personal or Business Loan" from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center, 1801 Nash St., Sanford. Now more than ever, having good credit is important in being able to obtain a personal or business loan, as well as determining the interest rate of loans, insurance premiums and deposits required for phone and utility services. In this three-hour seminar we will discuss the history of credit scoring, how to read a credit report, what factors are used in calculating a FICO or Beacon score and several other topics. • The Sanford/Lee County Stroke Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. at the Enrichment Center of Lee County, 1615 S. Third St., Sanford. The topic is stroke support group project, with tips for keeping your brain healthy and ways to boost your brain health. The speaker is Ana C. G. Felix, stroke neurologist, UNC General Neurology. Facilitator is Joy Phillips Murphy.

• Pittsboro Elementary School will hold its annual Holiday Art and Craft Fair from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. more than 20 vendors, many who are local artists and craftspeople from Pittsboro, will be selling a variety of handmade and unique Christmas items. There will also be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, kids' create a craft and more. Vendors can obtain an application from the Pittsboro Elementary School office. This is a PTA fund-raiser to ensure funding for field trips, events for the students and needed educational materials. Admission is free and open to the public.  

• Car seat checks will be offered today, and each Saturday, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at Central Fire Station on Hawkins Avenue in Sanford. Those wanting a check should make an appointment with Krista at (919) 775-8310 by the Wednesday beforehand.

DEC. 17

• A do-it-yourself custody workshop will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Legal Aid of North Carolina Inc. Pittsboro office, 959 East St. Pittsboro. This free workshop will include a video on the requirements of filing a custody action in North Carolina, as well as the forms to be completed by an attendee on his or her own to file with the court. Additionally, a brief question-and-answer session will be conducted at the end. For more information, please call 1-800-672-5834.

DEC. 18

• The Lee County Arts Council will host a modpodge class, taught by local artist Mary-jo Albright, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Artists' Loft. The cost is $10 and includes art supplies. Participants are asked to bring photos to attach to their art. Please call (919) 774-6139 to register.

• A free vision screening will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. Prevent Blindness North Carolina will be offering adult retinal camera vision screening. Retinal image screening assists in the detection of issues and diseases such as cataracts, diabetes, retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Funding is provided by The Kate B.
