n Members of the Broadway community will gather together to honor veterans during the holiday season as part of the annual Wreaths Across America Day. The American Heritage Girls Troop N.C. 1715 has volunteered to conduct the WAA ceremony this year, starting at noon, at the N.C. Veterans Memorial in Broadway. Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember all soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who served, honor their sacrifices, and teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms. n The Temple Theatre presents "A Christmas Carol" at 8 p.m. at 120 Carthage St. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. It also is open one hour before curtain on show days for will call and walk-up sales only. To learn more, visit www.templeshows.com.

n Pittsboro Elementary School will hold its annual Holiday Art and Craft Fair from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. more than 20 vendors, many who are local artists and craftspeople from Pittsboro, will be selling a variety of handmade and unique Christmas items. There will also be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, kids' create a craft and more. Vendors can obtain an application from the Pittsboro Elementary School office. This is a PTA fund-raiser to ensure funding for field trips, events for the students and needed educational materials. Admission is free and open to the public.

n Car seat checks will be offered today, and each Saturday, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at Central Fire Station on Hawkins Avenue in Sanford. Those wanting a check should make an appointment with Krista at (919) 775-8310 by the Wednesday beforehand.

n The Santa Claws event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at PetSmart on Spring Lane in Sanford. Pictures of pets and their families with Santa can be purchased, with proceeds benefiting Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption.

n A do-it-yourself custody workshop will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Legal Aid of North Carolina Inc. Pittsboro office, 959 East St. Pittsboro. This free workshop will include a video on the requirements of filing a custody action in North Carolina, as well as the forms to be completed by an attendee on his or her own to file with the court. n The Lee County Arts Council will host a modpodge class, taught by local artist Mary-jo Albright, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Artists' Loft. The cost is $10 and includes art supplies. Participants are asked to bring photos to attach to their art. Please call (919) 774-6139 to register.

n A free vision screening will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. Prevent Blindness North Carolina will be offering adult retinal camera vision screening. Retinal image screening assists in the detection of issues and diseases such as cataracts, diabetes, retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Funding is provided by The Kate B. n Strata Solar will host a hiring event from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Pittsboro Joblink on the CCCC campus, 764 West St., Pittsboro. Strata Solar is building large solar farms and has positions for those interested in entering the solar field. Strata is the largest solar company in North Carolina with farms under construction in the Piedmont and coastal plain. DEC. 20

n The Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce's AM Buzz December event will be held at 7:30 a.m. at Tractor Supply Company, 3004 S. Horner Blvd., Sanford. The event will feature door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, coffee and breakfast.

n The Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce and Central Carolina Hospital will hold a ribbon-cutting event, celebrating the grand opening of the new diagnostic catheterization lab, at 4 p.m.

DEC. 21

n A drawing will be held for the "The Taste of Southern Charm” Southern Supreme Carolina Sampler Gift Basket [$53 retail value], which is on display in This-N-That Gift Shop at Central Carolina Hospital. The cost is $1 per entry, and entrants do not have to be present to win. Proceeds benefit Central Carolina Hospital Auxiliary projects.

DEC. 22

n The Central Carolina Jaycees will host Breakfast with Santa, consisting of pancakes, sausage and beverage (milk, juice or coffee), with three sessions available: 7:30-8:15 a.m., 8:30-9:15 a.m. and 9:30-10:15 a.m. The event will be held at the Jaycee Hut, 809 Tryon St, Sanford, and the cost will be $3 for children and $5 for adults. Seating is limited, so spots must be reserved in advance. To register, please contact any Central Carolina Jaycee member or email info@centralcarolinajcs.org.
