• The Ammons Farm annual July 4 celebration will kick off with festivities at 5 p.m. at 2702 Farrell Road, Sanford (in the field beside Sanford Health & Rehab). The fireworks show will start around 9:15 p.m.

• A Prescribed Fire Hike will be held at 10 a.m. at Raven Rock State Park in Lillington. Attendees will meet at the picnic shelter and join a ranger on a guided hike to areas of the park that have recently seen prescribed fire. While walking through, they will learn about the benefits of prescribed fire and how staff implements it at the park. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water. The hike will be approximately four miles.

• The city of Lillington will hold a July 4 celebration, featuring a duck derby and live music at 5 p.m. next to Howard's BBQ, followed by a canoe and kayak race at 6 p.m. At the Lillington ball field, there will be live music and food vendors from 6:30-9:30 p.m., and fireworks will be presented by Precision Ford at dusk (9:15 p.m.). • The Lee County Library will be closed for the July 4 holiday through Sunday, July 6.

• The West Chatham Senior Center will hold a July 4 celebration, starting with a cruise-in at 4 p.m., at 112 Village Lake Road, Siler City. Cruise-in participants can come show off their cars, trucks or motorcycles. At 6 p.m., a hotdog cookout with fries and all the trimmings will start, sponsored by J..R. Gainey and the Killing Time Band. There will be line dancing in the ballroom, and from 7:30-10:30 p.m., a dance for all ages featuring a variety of country music. • Pittsboro First Sunday festivities will be held from noon-4 p.m. in downtown Pittsboro. This monthly artisan market offers shops, eateries, a street fair atmosphere, artists, live music, vendors and more. • A cub trek will be held from 10-11 a.m. at San-Lee Park, located on Pumping Station Road in Sanford. The one-mile hike for children ages 3-5, accompanied by their parents or guardians, will allow participants to explore trails with a naturalist.
