Sealed bids solicited for LCHS student-built home

Jun. 15, 2013 @ 05:00 AM

After no one bid on it at an auction, Lee County Schools has decided to accept sealed bids on a prefabricated house built by carpentry students at Lee County High School.

The house is 1,595 square feet, and the interior is completely furnished. A similar house built by Southern Lee High School students was auctioned for $60,000 earlier this month.

Those who are interested in buying it should mail in or drop off bids to Aaron Fleming, the district's director of career and technical education. Money from the sale will go toward buying supplies for CTE students to build houses next year, he said, and the sale must be approved by the Lee County Board of Education before it's final. The board approved the $60,000 offered for the Southern Lee students' house at its meeting Tuesday.

To be considered, bids for the house must be in Fleming's hands by 5 p.m. June 24, and payment will be due within 15 days of the school board's approval of the sale. Bids should be sent to Fleming at the Lee County Schools central office, at 106 Gordon St., Sanford, NC 27330. Fleming can also be reached at (919) 774-6226, ext. 1241.
