Lett's Set A Spell

Gratitude creates magic in our lives
Dec. 01, 2013 @ 12:00 PM

About nine years ago, a short film titled “The Secret” was the talk of the town on various TV and radio shows all over the world. The powerful documentary was created by Rhoda Bryne, who interviewed thought leaders, philosophers, writers, speakers and successful entrepreneurs about the meaning of the law of attraction. These ideas opened many people to a new way of thinking.

In 2006, Bryne published the book “The Secret.” Through insights from brilliant people and personal experiences, Bryne emphasized that our lives are not just some accident of evolution. There are spiritual laws that govern our planet and universe. Through our thoughts and beliefs, we attract into our lives experiences that correspond with who we are and what we are thinking.

When I read Bryne’s new book “The Magic,” published in 2012, I fell in love with its emphasis on gratitude. With “The Secret” the focus was simply the law of attraction … that people attract what they think about, who they are and what they expect. In “The Magic,” the key to creating our best life is simply being grateful.

THE AUTHOR believes that the concept of gratitude works in the same way as the law of attraction … “like a metal being drawn to a magnet, your gratitude is magnetic, and the more gratitude you have, the more abundance you magnetize.”

The scientist Sir Isaac Newton, who discovered gravity, believed that every action always has an opposite and equal reaction, and Bryne agrees.

In “The Magic,” Bryne states: “When you apply the idea of gratitude to Newton’s law it says every action of giving thanks always causes the opposite reaction of receiving. And what you receive will always be equal to the amount of gratitude you’re given. This means that the very action of gratitude sets off a reaction of receiving! And the more sincerely and the more deeply grateful you feel (in other words the more gratitude you give) the more you will receive.”

WHILE THE MESSAGE of “The Magic” is to feel gratitude, Bryne also offers day-by-day concrete application of the knowledge. The author’s 28 days of practices cover every area of our lives, drawing upon the power of the law of attraction through gratitude for our bodies, our relationships, our work, our money and even our challenges.

In reading “The Magic” again recently, I realize there is an art of gratitude that relates to expressing thankfulness for everyone and everything. Also there is a science of gratitude that proves that feeling and thinking about thankfulness attracts more reasons to be grateful.

I agree with Rhonda Bryne that gratitude is a feeling and the force of that feeling accelerates magic in our lives.

As I spend quality time with family and friends during the Thanksgiving season, I am going to appreciate the food and fellowship more than ever. While enjoying holiday celebrations and Christmas gatherings, I will feel very thankful for all my blessings.
