Comedy show coming to Temple Theatre on Tuesday
Temple Theatre will host a night of laughs Tuesday when it welcomes two experienced comics.
Shaun Jones and Mary Asher will headline a stand-up comedy show at the Temple, 120 Carthage St., which gets under way at 7 p.m.
Jones was born in Newark, N.J., and lived in Los Angeles for a short time. He now calls Atlanta home.
"He travels abroad entertaining crowds using his life experiences to get a laugh," according to a Temple news release. "Like an accomplished chef, Shaun combines a cup of truth, a spoonful of originality and a double twist of humor. When he takes the stage, he mixes his talents before the audience, bakes his show just right and serves up a unique dish to satisfy everyone's laughter appetite."
Jones has made several television appearances, including BET's "Comic View," Black Starz "1st Amendment Standup," and Robert Townsend's "Partners In Crime — The Next Generation." He also was featured in the 2003 motion picture "Shade."
Asher's comedy debut came in 1993 at a talent show for a company picnic. With over 700 hundred people in the audience, she plowed through her five minute skit in just over 50 seconds.
"Even though she had rushed through her material like an auctioneer who needs to go to the restroom, the experience planted the comedy bug in her in a big way," according to a Temple news release. "Since then, she's toured the world, cracking audiences up with her down-to-earth material. She's got a slew of cable TV credits, including an appearance on Comedy Central's 'Roast of Flavor Flav.'"
Showtime is 7 p.m. May 6. General Admission tickets are $15. Military, police, firefighters and Lee County school employees receive half off. Call the Box Office at (919) 774-4155 or visit templeshows.com to order online.
