• The Lee County Arts Council presents OpenArt with Maryjo Albright from noon-4 p.m.at the Artists’ Loft each Tuesday and Thursday. All materials are provided at a cost of $15. There is no need to register, as this is a drop-in class.

• The United Way of Lee County is accepting applications for funding from nonprofit agencies that provide programs and services meeting the health and human service needs of Lee County residents. Complete application information is available online at www.leecountyunitedway.org. Forms must be returned to the United Way office no later than Friday, Feb. 1. • St. Stephen Church is conducting citizenship classes for those permanent residents who may wish to apply for citizenship. The classes are held every Saturday from 6-7 p.m. There is no charge for the classes, and the Rev. Robert Ippolito, pastor of St. Stephen Church, who is also a Board of Immigration Appeals accredited representative, will process the required applications free of charge. • Those who love to sew are invited to join Find X Designs for its Monday morning and Thursday evening sewing circles at 719 Carthage St., Sanford. Bring a sewing machine and current project and enjoy the fellowship of fellow sewers from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays and 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays. • Project Point Five, Men Under Construction, meets each Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Brick Capital Community Development Center, 403 Makepeace St., Sanford. Men from all walks of life unite in one circle to reclaim and redeem themselves as brothers, fathers, husbands and role models. The goals for members, including obtaining employment, achieving educational milestones and reuniting families, are achieved by mentorship strategies, one-on-one counseling, group discussion and individual goal-setting. • The Central Carolina Group of Alcoholics Anonymous, a fellowship of men and women who share a desire to quit drinking, meets at 319 Moore St., Sanford. • Awesome Asperger Teens, a social group designed to help Asperger teens meet other kids, learn social skills, and especially have fun, meets on the second Thursday of every month and is open to all students in grades 6-12. • The Sanford/Lee County Stroke Support Group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. • The North Carolina Christian Cyclists #129 meet from 9-9:30 a.m. at the Golden Corral on the first Saturday of the month for breakfast and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. for the meeting. • The veterans discussion group meets the second Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Enrichment Center of Lee County.

• The Barn Dance 6341 Philippi Road, Julian, will host karaoke on the first and third Friday night of each month. Doors open at 6 p.m., karaoke begins at 7:30 p.m.

• The Sanford Area Photographers Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at The Enrichment Center of Lee County from 6-7:45 p.m. with facilitator Jerry Bachelor. Come share ideas and methods of picture taking with fellow photographers.

• Sanford Aglow Lighthouse meets every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lee County Arts and Community Center, 507 N. Steele St., Sanford.

• The Caring Connection meets at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of the month at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. This is a cancer support group that provides a time for patients and family members to discuss feelings and concerns.
