Independence Day at Ammons Farm keeps growing

Jun. 30, 2013 @ 05:01 AM

While the behind-the-scenes work may differ, facilitators of the annual Ammons Farm’s Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks hope Thursday’s event will instill the same sense of community.

Cindy and Joel Ammons have sought sponsorships for this year’s annual Independence Day festivities and fireworks, located in the open field at 2702 Farrell Road, to raise funds for the Lee Christian School Booster Club and Wounded Warrior Project. The inflatables, food and music will be open to the public at 4 p.m. Thursday and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

“We are not charging for parking this year and, instead, have sponsors to get the band, fireworks and inflatables covered,” Cindy Ammons said. “We plan to raise money by selling armbands for the inflatables for the children to play.”

Parking and admission to the festivities will be free, she said, but donations are encouraged and Lee Christian School students will be out in the parking lot to solicit donations.

"This has grown substantially every year,” Ammons said. “And we are going to do it regardless, so why not try and benefit the community.”The annual event — which began as a small party for family members — gives people a chance to socialize with friends and neighbors, while catching up with people they may not have seen since last year.

“It’s a safe place for kids to run and play, and parents to listen to a great band,” she said. “It’s a staple in the community.”
