Bear Creek man killed in crash
A Chatham County man died in a single-vehicle accident late Monday night.
Ivan Christopher Seal, 38, of Bear Creek, went down an embankment on N.C. Highway 902 and struck a tree at 10:09 p.m., according to a Highway Patrol spokesperson in Siler City.
Bette Nall expressed her condolences through social media and said in a phone interview that she knew Seal and their children were friends in elementary school.
“He was a very caring guy,” she said. “He wanted to make sure people were are peace and where happy. He didn’t meet a stranger, and he was not hard to get along with. He loved his family — he truly loved his family.”
Seal was driving a 1987 Chevrolet truck westbound on 902 when he ran off the road, reportedly over-corrected and lost control of his vehicle, traveling down an embankment where he struck a tree and overturned, according to the Highway Patrol. Trooper W.L. Allred said Seal died at the scene of the incident, located less than a mile from Mark Willett Road.
“He was exceeding the speed for the [road] conditions,” Allred said, adding that Seal’s speed and any other possible contributing factors to the wreck are under investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
