Man is killed in hit-and-run
A Sanford man was killed late Sunday night in a hit-and-run incident.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the accident occurred at 11:43 p.m. Sunday in northern Harnett County, and that they are still trying to track down the driver responsible. Multiple officials said they had no further information and couldn’t send an official report, and the trooper who responded to the scene was off work Monday and couldn’t be reached to officially confirm any other details.
However, both The News and Observer and WRAL-TV are reporting that the man killed was 38-year-old David Schultz, and that the accident occurred on Ponderosa Road. It’s unclear where on that road, which stretches from Olivia to Johnsonville, the wreck occurred.
According to WRAL, Schultz’s girlfriend said he was at a party and had too much to drink when he walked into the middle of the road and was hit by a car, which dragged him for some distance before speeding off and leaving Schultz to die. It’s unclear if he died at the scene or was taken to a hospital.
Anyone with information about the driver or vehicle that might have hit Schultz is asked to please contact the Highway Patrol at 800-334-7411 or 910-893-5704.
