HARNETT COUNTY: 6-year-old killed; uncle in intensive care after wreck
A 6-year-old Harnett County girl was killed in a single-vehicle accident Sunday night, according to authorities.
The driver of the vehicle, Edwin Joseph Baldwin, of the 200 block of Yorkshire Drive, Cameron, was airlifted to Duke University Medical Center after reportedly crossing the center line on Cameron Hill Road, running off the street, hitting a tree and continuing into a second tree around 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Highway Patrol Office Assistant Joanne Faberzak. Baldwin was listed in intensive care as of Monday afternoon.
Sara Perry, of the same address, was in the passenger seat of the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, Faberzak said.
Baldwin is Perry's uncle, said Highway Patrol Trooper Chad Summerline, and is married to Caroline Baldwin, who is Perry's biological aunt. The trooper said Caroline Baldwin had custody of Perry.
"There is no sign of speed, alcohol or drugs involved with this accident," Summerline said. "... We are suspecting some type of medical issue."
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, he said.
