Two Lee County men have been charged with murder in the February death of a Harnett County man, who was found shot in front of a Sanford home.

Marcel Lamar McNeill, 21, of the 2700 block of Minter School Road, and Laquan Maurice Thomas, 21, of the 1300 block of Summerset Place, were each charged with felony first-degree murder and felony robbery with a dangerous weapon Saturday in the Feb. 26 death of Chavez Lamar Spearman, 21, of Lillington, according to a Sanford Police Department news release.

Both McNeill and Thomas waived their right to a court-appointed attorney during their first appearance Monday. McNeill retained Kevin Foushee and Norman “Chas” Post, from Doster, Post, Silverman, Foushee & Post, and Thomas had not hired an attorney as of press time. Both were held without bond at the Lee County Jail.

Spearman was found in his vehicle, shot in the face, in the driveway of a Sanford home in the 2400 block of Shawnee Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.  A handgun was found inside his vehicle.

McNeill allegedly took a cell phone and backpack from the victim by threatening the use of a firearm, according to the police release.
