Woman injured in local wreck
A Lee County mother was airlifted to UNC Hospitals after crashing her car Wednesday morning, although her 10-year-old son walked away with no major injuries.
Latoria Denise Snipes, 31, was traveling north on Lee Avenue around 8 a.m., on a rural stretch south of Wilson Road. According to Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Black, Snipes drifted into the left lane and then off the road on the left side and over-corrected, veering off the road on the right and crashing into a tree.
The impact appeared to have been directly on the driver's side; Black said she suffered injuries to her left arm, leg and foot as well as other possible injuries. She was flown to UNC Hospitals for further treatment, although Black said Snipes was alert and talking before being transported.
He said the wreck apparently occurred because Snipes turned her attention to the back seat, instead of the road, while coming around a curve.
"I asked the little boy if he knew what happened, and he said, 'Yeah, mom was talking to me and then we crashed,'" Black said.
