Easter brings plethora of family-friendly activities

With less than two weeks until Peter Cottontail makes his rounds, families can celebrate the upcoming holiday with several Easter activities throughout Central Carolina in the coming days.

Several free or low-cost Easter egg hunts, visits by the Easter Bunny and other events are set to begin this weekend, including six Easter egg hunts scheduled for Saturday. Easter is March 31.

The following is a list of upcoming events scheduled around the area:

Lee County events:

• Preschool Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: Buffalo Presbyterian Church, located at 1333 Carthage St., Sanford.

More information: Open to the public.

Cost: Free

• Community Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday

Where: Kiwanis Park, located at 1800 Wicker St.

More Information: Easter egg hunts will be held for children ages 10 and under, face painting, balloon animals, games, prizes, concessions and visits with the Easter Bunny. Food donations will be accepted for Communities in Schools, and the gathering is sponsored by the Central Carolina Jaycees. 

Cost: Free.


•Easter Egg Hunt at New Hope Church

When: 1-4 p.m. Saturday

Where: 2901 Beechtree Drive, Sanford.

More information: Event includes an egg hunt for elementary and toddler-aged children, inflatables, games, snacks, prizes and music.

Cost: Free.

• Egg Hunt & Hay Ride at Broken Plow Farm

When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 30.

Where: 1851 Avents Ferry Road, Sanford.

More information: Easter egg hunt, visits with the Easter Bunny, barrel rides, 30-minute hay rides, rope maze, petting zoo, games and an educational portion about farming will be offered. Make a reservation by calling (919) 770-6223 or visiting www.brokenplowfarm.com.

Cost: $10 per person, children under 2 are free. Cash and checks accepted.

• Easter Egg Hunt at Jonesboro Presbyterian

When: 6 p.m. March 27

Where: 220 Woodland Ave., Sanford.

More information: Event is an Easter egg hunt for children.

Cost: Free.

• Good Friday Easter Egg Hunt

When: Following a 7 p.m. Good Friday service, March 29.

Where: Broadway Baptist Church, located at 301 First St., Broadway.

More information: Event includes a hot dog supper and after dark Easter egg hunt for children. Bring a basket and flashlight.

Cost: Free.

• Easter Egg Hunt & Picture at Carolina Town & Country

When: 10 a.m. March 30

Where: 710 E. Main St., Sanford.

More information: Hunt for eggs and take photos with the Easter Bunny.

Cost: Free egg hunt, $7 picture with the Easter Bunny.

• San-Lee Community Egg Hunt at Boys & Girls Club

When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 30

Where: 1414 Bragg St., Sanford.

More information: Event features an egg hunt, carnival rides and hot dogs.

Cost: Free. 

• Community Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m. March 30

Where: Ephesus Baptist Church, located at 2724 White Hill Road.

More information: Easter egg hunt offered for children ages 1 through 11; activities and food will be offered.

Cost: Free.

  Chatham County event:

• Chatham County Parks and Recreation 11th annual Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday

Where: Central Carolina Community College (Pittsboro campus), located at 764 West St., Pittsboro.

More information: Easter egg hunts will be available for children ages 10 and under, as well as clowns, balloon animals, giant slides, bounce house, book fair and concessions.

Cost: Free.

  Harnett County events:

• Lillington Easter Egg Hunt

When: noon-3 p.m., egg hunt begins at 2 p.m., Saturday

Where: Lillington Ball Park, located 405 South First St.

More information: Eggs hunt held for children ages 2 to 10, in addition to bounce houses, slides, trains, fire trucks and police vehicles.

• Second Annual Easter Eggstravaganza

When: 3-5 p.m. March 30

Where: Lillington Church of God, located at 500 West Old Road, Lillington.

More information: Easter egg hunts, inflatables, balloon art, face painting and the Easter Story will be presented.

  Moore County event:

• 2013 Easter Egg Hunt

When: 11 a.m. March 30

Where: Cannon Park, located at 90 Woods Road, Pinehurst.

More information: Egg hunts will be held for children ages 1 to 9, with special eggs for prizes, as well as face painting and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Sponsored by the Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department.

Cost: Free.
