Man charged with attack on neighbor
A local man was injured late Thursday night after allegedly being attacked by a neighbor, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
After deputies responded to an emergency call just before midnight in the 2700 block of Brookhaven Drive, they reported finding Jimmie Daniel Chambers in his home “suffering from a substantial [cut] to his right forearm.” He was later transported to Central Carolina Hospital.
Albert Louis Godwin, 63, was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was later released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
According to the arrest report, Chambers told deputies that he heard Godwin “outside his door cussing and yelling at him” for an unreported reason. After Chambers told Godwin to leave, according to the sheriff’s office account of the alleged situation, “Godwin refused and approached Chambers and cut him on the arm while Chambers attempted to block the assault.”
