Sanford's annual spring festival has a new name and now a new look.

The inaugural Sanford Arts and Vine Festival — a joint effort by business leaders, nonprofit groups, local artists, city officials and other community volunteers — unveiled its logo this week. Designed by Sanford-based marketing and advertising firm Mottis, the logo is a marriage between vintage style typography, hand-drawn elements and clean geometric lines.

“The Arts and Vine logo has a home-town feel with the sophistication of a world-class event,” said Brandee Heading, creative director at Mottis.

Potters will be joined by wine enthusiasts, musicians and artists of other mediums at the inaugural festival, set for May 4-5 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center in Sanford. The festival replaces the now defunct Sanford Pottery Festival, which drew thousands to the area the weekend before Mother's Day for 11 years.

“Arts and Vine will emphasize what we're known for — pottery — but will expand on that to include other art forms and other artists,” said Tom Snell of the festival's organizing committee.

The festival launched a Facebook page — http://facebook.com/artsandvine — and will launch its website in the coming days. For more information or to apply as an artist or volunteer, contact the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce at (919) 775-7341 or email info@sanford-nc.com.
