SANFORD: Fourth of July festivities delayed due to weather
Recent rainy days and soggy ground have forced the postponement of the annual Ammons Farm Fourth of July Celebration, and its trademark fireworks display, until Sunday evening.
While the rain is expected to stop by Thursday, the field where the festivities are set to take place will still be wet, according to Cindy Ammons.
"We regret having to change the date," she said. "But everything will be the same. Everyone has confirmed and are still on board."
The field needs a few days of drying out, she said, and the celebration is set to begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the field next to Sanford Health & Rehabilitation, located at 2702 Farrell Road. Admission and parking are free for the event, which will feature inflatable bounce houses for children, face painting, food and music.
Donations will, however, be collected for the Lee Christian School Booster Club and the Wounded Warriors Project. The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Ammons said.
The annual town of Carthage Fourth of July Parade is still scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in the downtown area.
