Long wait over for fireworks show

With multiple postponements due to bad weather behind them, the Ammons family will try to hold its annual fireworks celebration one more time.

A Labor Day fireworks celebration is scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the empty field next to Sanford Health and Rehabilitation, located at 2702 Farrell Road, with vendors, music and games for children. People can begin to park at 3 p.m., and fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m.

The Ammons family usually holds an annual Fourth of July firework celebration, but a wet July forced the family to delay it several times.

“We are really looking forward to it,” said Cindy Ammons, the event’s organizer. “It’s a good time to get together since school just started and have a good time. We really hope there is a good turnout and they get to listen to great music and spend some time together.”

The high for Saturday is set at 88 degrees with a forecast of partly sunny, according to the National Weather Service.

Parking and admission are free, but donations will be accepted for the Lee Christian School Booster Club and Wounded Warriors Project, she said. There will also be $10 armbands available for children to play on large inflatables, food for purchase and a corn hole tournament beginning at 5 p.m.

The event will feature live music by Huckleberry Blue.
