A Carolina Trace security guard was charged with aiding a fugitive and obstructing law enforcement officers after Lee County deputies attempted to arrest a Carolina Trace man Wednesday night.

James “Buddy” Kitchens Jr., 48, of the 900 block of South Bay in Carolina Trace, Sanford, was charged with aiding a fugitive and obstructing officers after he reportedly alerted Mark Andrew Wells, 47, of the 5000 block of Wren Way in Carolina Trace, Sanford, to the arrival of Lee County Sheriff deputies attempting to arrest him shortly before 11 p.m., according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jeff Johnson.

“When the deputies got (to Wells’s residence) it appeared that no one was home,” Johnson said. “We received information that he was there, so the deputies waited, and about 30 minutes later, a car left the home with a female driver. Wells was in the trunk of the vehicle.”

Wells was charged with failure to appear and failure to pay child support. He was held under a $8,138 cash bond. Kitchens was held under a $500 secured bond.
