Cameron man shot in leg during fight
An 18-year-old Cameron man was reportedly shot in the leg early Wednesday morning in Sanford, and details of the incident are being investigated.
Clarence Wade Young Jr. reportedly told the Lee County Sheriff's Office that he was walking down Fountain Wood Drive in southern Lee County with his cousin at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when he was shot during a fight with two other men.
A press release sent Wednesday morning from the sheriff's office states that Young told officers he and his cousin exchanged words with two men in a silver SUV. After that, the report continues, the vehicle's driver turned around and the four men got into a physical altercation, during which one of the men from the SUV pulled out a pistol and shot Young in the leg. However, Capt. Jeff Johnson of the Lee County Sheriff's Office said Monday afternoon that the incident is now being investigated as a possible false report by Young. Johnson didn't elaborate, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Young, who lives in the 1200 block of Blacks Chapel Road in Cameron, approximately two miles away from where he reported being shot, was taken to the Central Carolina Hospital emergency room. As of 5 p.m. Monday he was still in the hospital and listed in good condition.
