No change in city property tax rate
The city's property tax rate will remain at 54 cents per $100 in the coming year.
Sanford City Council was scheduled to vote on the proposed $44.1 million budget, which included a 7 cent property tax increase from revenue neutral, during its meeting Tuesday night.
Council member Samuel Gaskins proposed the city approve its budget while maintaining its property tax rate at 54 cents per $100 valuation, which passed with Council member Charles Taylor casting the lone nay vote. Several cuts were made to the proposed budget to drop the property tax rate from the proposed 58 cents to 54 cents.
A full report from Tuesday's meeting will appear in Thursday's edition of The Herald.
