A local man was charged with multiple felony counts of child exploitation after Lee County Sheriff's officers reportedly seized computers containing thousands of videos and photos of child pornography Monday.

Gerald Glenn Garvin, 58, of the 300 block of Bracken Street, was charged with 18 felony counts of second-degree sexual exploration of a minor Monday, according to Lee County Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Johnson. Garvin was held on $100,000 secured bond at the Lee County Jail.

Sheriff's officers executed a search warrant for Garvin's residence and confiscated four computers and other media devices, Johnson said.

"We did find thousands of videos and photos of child pornography," he said.

Officers worked for six months in this investigation in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Johnson said. Two officers within the sheriff's office are members of the U.S. Department of Justice's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program, which helped in this operation, he said.

"This will hopefully send a message to these people who are engaging in these kind of activities," Johnson said. "We're in the business of [shutting down] computer crime in Lee County."
