Local pastor unharmed after tree falls on car
As her vanity plate proclaimed, a Sanford pastor was "Just Blessed" when a tree fell on her car Tuesday and she walked away with barely a scratch.
Hancy Barnes, 76, pastor at Little Galilee Church located at Vance Street and Fields Drive, was driving home in the rain Tuesday morning when all of a sudden, she said, a tree landed on top of her Toyota, crushing the roof and windshield. Several minutes later, as firefighters, law enforcement and civilians worked on clearing the tree from across Poplar Springs Church Road, Barnes said she was feeling appreciative.
"I'm just glad to be alive, not going to the mortician," she said.
Barnes, who said she's only 52 inches tall — that's 4feet, 4 inches — she said her height might be why she suffered nothing but a few small cuts on one of her legs, even though a large tree had crashed down directly on her windshield.
"Lord, if I wasn't so short, I'd be dead now," she said.
