Two local men were charged with armed robbery Tuesday night, according to police.

Trey Rakeem Gunter, 20, of the 600 block of Magnolia Street, and Damien Hassan Steadman, 21, of the 500 block of Bracken Street, were each charged with felony robbery with a firearm or other dangerous weapon at 2570 Lee Ave. Tuesday night, according to a Sanford Police Department incident report.

Matthew Phelps, 22, of the 1500 block of Rollins Store Road, was walking in his neighborhood when he allegedly was approached by two men in a silver, four-door vehicle, said Sanford Sgt. Harold Layton.

"They approached him and demanded money," Layton said. "They took a wallet containing some currency and personal identification."

Police released a description of the vehicle, and the two suspects were charged shortly after, Layton said.

Gunter and Steadman were both held Wednesday on a $50,000 secured bond.
