Three hurt in Sanford wreck
Three Sanford residents were injured in a wreck late Tuesday night on Highway 87 near the intersection with Swann Station Road.
Jessica Lynne Smith, 29, was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving left of center after her Ford pickup truck reportedly crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck a Volkswagen sedan carrying Jaydipkumar Lad, 30, and his wife Jujaya Lad, according to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Johnson.
Johnson said there's no evidence that alcohol or drugs played factor in the crash, and that Smith said she was returning home after leaving work at 11 p.m. The wreck occurred around 11:20 p.m. in the northbound lane of the highway. Johnson said Wednesday morning that Smith and Jaydipkumar Lad were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, and Jujaya Lad was taken to Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. Johnson said he wasn't sure of their conditions, but he expects all of them to live.
"There [were] broken bones and stuff, but the doctors said they're going to be OK," he said.
Johnson also said that wreck was the only accident he knew of in Lee County all Tuesday night, despite heavy rains.
"Especially with all that weather, we were lucky," he said.
