CCCC graduates eight from night BLET program
Eight Central Carolina Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training cadets recently received their graduation certificates at exercises at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. All were members of the 2012-13 BLET evening training program at the college’s Emergency Services Training Center.
Receiving their certificates were Donnie Montgomery, Alberto Estrada, James Donnell, Travis Poole and Alejandro Lezama, all of Sanford; Ariana Alvarez, of Willow Spring; Jonathan Thompson, of Bennett; and Kevin Ennis, of Fuquay-Varina.
Several of the graduates were recognized for outstanding achievement during their training: Most Improved Physical Training — Travis Poole; Highest Course Grade Point Average — Kevin Ennis; Highest State Exam GPA — Alberto Estrada; and Jimmy Collins Top Gun Award and Best Police Officers Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) — Jonathan Thompson.
Captain Roy Allen, of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, delivered the graduation remarks. Class Leader Jonathan Thompson gave the class response.
The college’s BLET program is under the direction of Robert Powell. The cadets had to complete 624 hours of law enforcement training in areas such as criminal and motor vehicle laws, vehicle stops, first responder medical care, firearms training, driver’s training, sheriff’s duties, and subject control/arrest techniques.
Each graduate also had to pass all 35 blocks of instruction, a rigorous 12-week physical training program, as well as a four-hour written comprehensive state examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division.
All graduates are qualified to be certified law enforcement officers in North Carolina.
Sponsoring agencies for the evening BLET class were the Broadway and Siler City police departments, Chatham and Harnett sheriffs’ offices, Chatham County Courthouse, Chatham Central High School, Pittsboro Elementary School and the U.S. Veterans Administration.
