Board to consider Buggy Factory lease

Aug. 03, 2014 @ 02:21 PM

The Lee County Commissioners will discuss the leasing and interlocal agreement for the Sanford Buggy Factory during its regular monthly meeting Monday.

The Buggy Factory on Chatham Street is the proposed location for the Sanford-Lee County Partnership for Prosperity, a public-private economic development engine that merges the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce with the Lee County Economic Development Corporation.

“It’s a historical site,” Commissioner Kirk Smith said of the Buggy Factory. “I look forward to seeing it put to good use.”

Commissioners also will consider a resolution that would repeal a gun ordinance banning licensed concealed carry holders from carrying concealed weapons in public buildings.

Chairman Charlie Parks said he did not foresee much discussion on the repealing of the ordinance, and that he believed licensed gun owners being allowed to carry their weapons was a constitutional right.

The commissioners’ meeting will be held at the Lee County Government Center at 6 p.m.

Commissioners also will consider.

• presentation and approval of resolution regarding Time Warner and Comcast acquisition.

• application for state aid to libraries.

• resolution allowing county manager paid education leave.
