Sanford man charged in Broadway shooting
A Sanford man is in custody, charged with attempted murder, and a Lillington man is hospitalized following a shooting incident early Friday, according to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office.
Chemelle Jevon Pegues, 36, of 506 S. Third. St. Sanford, was arrested Friday afternoon at his home in connection with the incident, which was reported around 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to a prepared statement from the sheriff's office. Pegues reportedly is charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Sanford Police Department officers reportedly helped in the apprehension.
The Harnett County Detention Center confirmed the suspect was jailed under a bond of $500,000. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety offender database lists a Lee County conviction in 2005 for carrying of a concealed weapon and a 1998 conviction in Wake County for possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to probation/parole in both cases.
According to the statement, deputies responded to 381 Jesse Road, Broadway, in reference to a gunshot victim. Deputies determined that the victim, Tracy Antonio Moore 27, of 1299 Moores Chapel Road, Lillington, had been shot while attending a party at that address.
Friends transported him to Central Carolina Hospital, according to the statement, and he later was transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. His condition was not available.
