None injured by shots fired into local market
A local convenience store owner and his wife were forced to flee into the back of their store as bullets pelted their business Monday afternoon.
Bhagubahi Jamnadas Patel, owner of Sanford Grocery Store and Produce, reported several shots were fired into his store, located at 1206 Woodland Ave., at around 4:30 p.m., according to a Sanford Police Department incident report.
Two groups of people appeared to be outside in the parking lot when the firing began, Patel said.
“We were inside and didn’t know what was going on outside,” he said. “Once we head the shots, we rushed into the back storeroom.”
No arrests have been made, according to Sanford Police Capt. David Smith.
“A customer entered the store, and at his departure, shots were fired into the store,” Smith said.
No one was injured, but a glass door and wooden wall sustained damage, according to the incident report.
