Three-month investigation nets 70 pounds of marijuana
A local man was arrested and more than 70 pounds of marijuana were seized from an indoor growing operation Wednesday following a three-month investigation, law enforcement officials announced.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office recovered at least $50,000 worth of hydroponic marijuana after executing a search warrant in the 100 block of Triple Lakes Road Wednesday, said Lee County Sheriff Narcotics Division Capt. John Holly.
“We’ve got anywhere from 50 to 60 hydroponic, high-grade marijuana plants,” Holly said.
A second search warrant was executed in the 3300 block of Hawkins Avenue, he said. An undisclosed amount of marijuana was seized at that address, according to Holly.
Gerardo Zictorero, 31, of Sanford, was charged with felony trafficking marijuana, felony manufacturing marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling for storing drugs, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell, Holly said.
The investigation was a joint effort with Wake County Alcoholic Beverage Control, and the Sanford Police Department assisted in executing the warrants Wednesday.
“It went extremely well,” Holly said. “It was a slow, progressing case that we have worked since about mid-January. We got a substantial seizure and a person charged with good evidence — a good case.”
