Domestic incident leads to one injury, one arrest
An argument Tuesday reportedly led to one man shooting another in the leg, and ultimately an arrest, according to the Sanford Police Department.
Rywan Harper, 24, of the 600 block of Washington Avenue, Sanford, has reportedly been charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. He was also served with two outstanding warrants for failure to appear, according to a statement from the Sanford Police Department.
Officers responded to an incident shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Carbonton Road, where Jeremy Holder, 27, of Chisholm Street, Sanford, reportedly told officers he had gotten into an altercation with another subject. According to police, Holder had been struck in the head with a brick and shot with a handgun in his lower leg.
Capt. David Smith classified the altercation as a “domestic situation.” He said tensions escalated when the suspect went to pick up his child “and got into a confrontation with the new boyfriend, who was there.”
The victim went to Central Carolina Hospital, and Smith said he was treated and released.
“However, the bullet is still lodged in his leg,” Smith said.
Harper was placed in Lee County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond, according to the police statement.
