NC Senate to take up tax overhaul plan next week
The North Carolina Senate plans to consider tax overhaul legislation next week with or without a final compromise in hand with fellow Republicans in the House.
The Senate announced Friday its finance committee would meet Monday with a tax bill on its agenda.
House and Senate leaders have been negotiating details of a proposal to cut income tax rates and expand the scope of the sales tax to cover more services and eliminate exemptions.
A spokesman for House Speaker Thom Tillis said late Friday no agreement had been reached. The House won't hold a regular work session next week, but the Senate will.
Senate leader Phi Berger says negotiations will continue this weekend but says it's time to move the tax reform process forward regardless of a deal.
