One dead, one hurt in separate vehicle strikes
One Central Carolina woman was killed, and another was injured, after being struck by vehicles in separate incidents over the weekend.
Tiffany Johnson, 18, of Sanford, was struck by a 1998 Honda vehicle on Edwards Road at 7:11 p.m. Sunday, according to N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. R.W. Elkins.
"The pedestrian was crossing the road and was struck in the road by the driver's side mirror," he said.
She was taken to Central Carolina Hospital, where she was later released, according to CCH Public Relations Director Crystal Hickman.
The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Nicholas White of Sanford, was not injured, and there were no charges filed, Elkins said.
"[Johnson] was not visible due to her clothing and her failure to yield in the roadway," Elkins said. "She was not in a crosswalk."
On Friday, Diane Selena McMillian Williams, 53, of Spring Lake, was struck by a vehicle and killed shortly after 6 p.m. on Highway 210 — 11 miles south of Lillington, according to a N.C. Highway Patrol spokesperson.
Williams was crossing the highway when she was struck by Jordan Nicole West of Spring Lake, who was traveling southbound on the highway, according to the Highway Patrol.
No charges have been filed, according to the Highway Patrol.
A funeral for Williams is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church in Lillington.
