In a sure sign of fall in Lee County, Gross Farms is preparing to welcome visitors to its corn maze and pumpkin patch for another season.

The farm’s annual attractions will open Saturday, Sept. 21, and run through Nov 3. Visitors can navigate a 15-acre labyrinth, which in 2013 consists of three puzzles containing more than five miles of winding pathways in a 15-acre field of corn — one of the largest in the the area, according to the farm’s website.

“Within each puzzle, there are checkpoints with a different-shaped punch at each station,” the site states. “Guests track their progress through the maze by punching a card given to them at the entrance to the maze. Staff and maps are stationed throughout the maze to assist guests.”

This year’s maze design incorporates a message of “Thanks to Our Troops,” as well as the name of the farm and the station logo for WKML 95.7 radio.

The pumpkin patch is located adjacent to the maze, offering gourds of all shapes and sizes. A play area is also located nearby for those younger guests who are unable to tackle the large maze.

“The John Deere tricycle track provides an outlet for the junior family members to release their energy while mom and dad take a break under the picnic tent,” according to the the farm’s website. “We have a large picnic area located next to the maze. And don’t worry... we have a concessions stand stocked with snacks and beverages.”

The hours of operation will be Wednesdays-Fridays by appointment only, Fridays from 7–10 p.m. (beginning in October), Saturdays from 10 a.m.– 10 p.m. and Sundays from 1–6 p.m.

Per the website, general admission (ages 2 and up) is $3. A la carte pricing, which includes general admission, is listed as follows: The corn maze (ages 4 and up), $10; the corn maze for ages 3 and under, with paid adult admission, free; playground (ages 2 and up), which includes Tom’s Tunnel, pumpkin jump, castle, train and boat playsets and John Deere Tricycle Track, $8; hayride (ages 2 and up), $5.

A combo ticket for $16 includes general admission, corn maze, playground and one hayride. Military and group discounts are available.
