As dancers get on their feet tonight for a fundraiser, held by The Sanford Area Society of Shaggers, they will be doing their part to help area charities.

The local dance group is hosting its 24th annual Shaggin’ in the Sandhills dance from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Sanford Elks Club, located at 910 Carthage St. Tickets are $10 at the door.

“It is just so exciting,” said Sandy Forsythe, co-chairman of the dance committee. “It’s not just dancing. There will be lots of things to see, including wonderful entertainment and fantastic food.”

Proceeds from the dance will go to Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina chapter to grant the wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions and other charities in Lee County, Forsythe said.

“Everyone will have a great time, and it’s a wonderful benefit,” she said. “You can’t get anything better for $10.”

The organization will also host its annual golf tournament at 8:30 a.m. April 6 at the Sanford Municipal Golf Course, located at 600 Golf Course Lane. Interested golfers can contact Gary White at (919) 775-9769.
