Local woman hurt in drive-by shooting

A local woman was treated and released from the hospital after being injured in a drive-by shooting Monday night, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, identified as 17-year-old Julisa Gisell Gutierrez of Austin Street, Sanford, reportedly was struck in the lower right leg while at 2601 Andrews Drive, Sanford. The incident was reported around 7:30 p.m.

"I don't believe she was targeted," said Capt. Jeff Johnson, chief detective with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. "She was visiting this house. There was a social gathering there at the time."

A friend transported her to the emergency room at Central Carolina Hospital, according to authorities, where she was treated and released.

Witnesses reported seeing a red or burgundy SUV in the area at the time of the shooting, the sheriff's office reported. Anyone having information on this case is urged to call the sheriff's office at (919) 775-5531, which is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
