ELECTION: Voters advised of details as municipal primary nears

Sep. 01, 2013 @ 05:02 AM

With both classes and voting being conducted at local schools on Sept. 10, the Lee County Board of Elections is asking for the public's cooperation during the municipal primary.

Five schools will be polling places on Election Day, and voting hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

"Those schools will be open as a regular school day for the students, so we are asking voters who want to vote at their regular polling place to, if possible, avoid the peak hours for student drop-off and pickup," the board stated in a "notice to voters" released Friday. "The busy time for student drop-off in the morning is 7:15 a.m. – 8 a.m., and the busy time for student pickup in the afternoons is 1:45 p.m. – 3:30 p.m."

According to the notice, signs will tell voters where to park and how to get to the voting area. Curbside voting will be available at all locations for the handicapped and/or elderly voters.

One-stop early voting is now available at the election board office at 225 S. Steele St., Sanford, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 7, 8 a.m.–1 p.m. The early voting site has curbside voting and a ramp for anyone with a walker, cane or wheelchair.

The polling sites are as follows:

A1 – Southern Lee High School, 2301 Tramway Road, Sanford, NC

A2 – J. Glenn Edwards Elementary School, 3115 Cemetery Road, Sanford, NC

B2 – B.T. Bullock Elementary School, 1410 McNeill Road, Sanford, NC

E2 – East Lee Middle School, 1337 Broadway Road, Sanford, NC

The Tramway Elementary School polling place will not be open, and all eligible voters are asked to vote at Southern Lee High School.
