CARA invites cyclists to ‘Ride for Their Lives’
This week, we Take 5 with Eva Beko-Rogers, who is fundraising co-chairman with CARA (Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption), about local fundraising efforts for CARA.
What is Ride for Their Lives?
Ride for Their Lives is CARA’s annual cycling fundraiser held at Deep River Park (Camel Back Bridge). This year’s event will be held on May 11. There are three courses to choose from, 62, 31 and 10 miles, which ride through Lee, Chatham and Moore counties. All levels of bikers are welcome, and the ride is fully supported with food, beverages and goodies. Lunch is provided for the riders, and we will have live music in the park. This is our fourth annual ride — registration

What other major fundraisers are planned for the rest of the year?
We have our annual golf tournament planned for June 15 (Father’s Day weekend) at Quail Ridge Golf Course (www.cara-nc.org/puttsformutts), and our fifth annual 5K/10K run is on Aug. 24 at Kiwanis Park. We will have fun for the kids, vendors, food and music at the event (www.cara-nc.org/run).
What other events/fundraisers will CARA be involved in this year?
CARA turns 10 years old this year, and we are having a special insert in The Herald with great advertising specials, a Pet Photo contest and a special memorial section. The insert will run on June 1. Please contact Lori Resnick at The Herald to participate at email@example.com or call (919) 718-1214. We are at the Sanford PetSmart the last Saturday of every month showing off our available dogs. We also have various fundraising events such as a Halloween event in October, Santa Paws in December and Dine-out nights at various restaurants throughout the year. Keep checking our CARA website (www.cara-nc.org ) and also our Facebook page for the latest CARA happenings.
Does CARA assist with spay and neuter ?
Yes, CARA does have a low-cost spay and neuter program called $20 fix. We have a limited number of vouchers each month to those who qualify. Please see our website for more details and to download the application: www.cara-nc.org.
How can the public help CARA?
We always are in need of donations for Purina brand dog/puppy and cat/kitten food, bleach, paper towels, treats, and, of course, monetary donations are always needed to keep our animals healthy and keep our shelter in operation. The best way to donate directly is through our website, www.cara-nc.org, or by sending a check to: CARA, P.O. Box 2642, Sanford, N.C. 27331. We are always in need of volunteers to help with shelter maintenance, dog handling at events, fundraising events, etc. Email us if you are interested in helping — firstname.lastname@example.org.
