McCrory criticizes Senate process on abortion bill
Gov. Pat McCrory says he's unhappy with the process that led the North Carolina Senate to pass legislation putting more restrictions on carrying out abortions.
McCrory said Wednesday that Senate Republicans who backed the legislation are doing business the same way Democrats did when they led the General Assembly. McCrory says that's not right in any case.
The bill was pushed through the Senate in less than 24 hours with little advance notice. McCrory says the process should be appropriate and thorough.
Senate leader Phil Berger later defended the chamber's actions, saying the bill was debated at length in committee and on the Senate floor in line with chamber rules.
Several portions were unveiled earlier this year or already passed the House, but a key portion was unveiled late Tuesday.
