NC House votes to override both McCrory vetoes

The North Carolina House has voted to cancel both of Republican Gov. Pat McCrory's two vetoes.

The House agreed Tuesday to cancel vetoes by McCrory requiring drug-testing for some welfare applicants and broadening an exemption for employers to avoid using the E-Verify system to check the legal status of new workers.

Both margins were above the three-fifths majorities needed to override.

The bills now go to the Senate, where leaders intended to hear and vote on the bills Wednesday morning. Senate Rules Chairman Tom Apodaca of Hendersonville said earlier Tuesday he didn't see any reason why the bills would fail to pass in his chamber by veto-proof margins.
