Three events open to the public in Lee County this holiday weekend will commemorate the life and vision of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
There will be two events Sunday, one at 1:30 p.m. at the MLK Memorial on the corner of Horner Boulevard and Washington Avenue, and the other at 6 p.m. at Blandonia Presbyterian Church on Wall Street in downtown Sanford. The early event is being sponsored by the Council for Effective Actions and Decisions, and the evening event is being sponsored by the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
On Monday, CEAD will host another event, at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. It will begin at 9 a.m. with a seminar on violence and gangs geared toward local youth and will feature a speaker and music beginning at 1 p.m.
