Health officials in North Carolina say they're now investigating 19 cases of measles in three counties, and are alerting people in three other counties that they may have been exposed to the virus.

A statement from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday said confirmed cases of measles have turned up in Stokes, Orange and Polk counties. Of the 19 cases, 13 are in Stokes and five are in Orange.

Also, state and local health officials have notified more than 1,000 people in Forsyth, Guilford and Chatham counties who may have been exposed to the disease.

Investigators say that at least two confirmed cases attended the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival in Chatham County nearly two weeks ago while infectious and before becoming ill.
