Williams files to retain council seat
Incumbent James "J.D." Williams filed for re-election Monday afternoon in hopes of keeping his seat on the Sanford City Council.
Williams, who has represented Ward 3 since 1997, said he intends to move the city forward through job growth and tourism if re-elected.
"That is my motto, and has been for quite some time," he said. "And, when I say, 'Move the city forward,' I mean bring in new jobs — doing whatever it takes to get those here."
Williams, owner of Williams Insurance Agency, is a Lee County native and received his associates degree in business and insurance.
No one has filed to run against Williams in Ward 3, and he said he was unopposed in the last election.
"I haven't heard of anyone interested in running against me, but you know how that is," Williams said.
Filing for the Sanford and Broadway elections ends at noon Friday.
