Jurors, alternates seated for McNeill murder trial
The last of four alternate jurors has been seated for the trial of a man accused of raping and killing a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl.
Jury selection finished Thursday afternoon in the capital murder trial of Mario McNeill. Eight women and four men comprise the jury. Three of the four alternates are women.
Court officials say the trial is scheduled to take a day off on Friday and resume at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Prosecutors are expected to make their opening statements to the jury and begin presenting evidence.
The 32-year-old McNeill is accused of the November 2009 death of Shaniya Davis. He could face the death sentence if convicted.
Shaniya's mother also faces charges that she sold her daughter to pay a drug debt. Antoinette Davis hasn't been tried yet.
